Youth Training Workshop on Climate Change September 27-30, 2009 Bangkok, Thailand Co-organized by Asian Muslim Action Network and Youth Coordination International
Project Objectives:
To build awareness about the impacts of climate change and enhance their capacity to be engaged in green campaign (positive actions inspired by religious and cultural values to protect environment and climate) at schools and communities.
Rationale: Environment and development has been in the agenda of UN, government, faith communities and NGOs since early 80’s but in the beginning of 21st century, the Climate change has emerged as a new challenge and becoming an integral priority concern of various stake holders. Modernization, rapid development policies have great impact on environment and climate. Natural resource management have direct relevance to poverty, sustainable development and peace. Poorest of the poor can feel the impact in terms water crises, excessive heat waves, pollution and flood all threat to life and livelihood.
In October 2008 ARF – AMAN organized a consultation of Muslim religious leaders, scholars and researchers to discuss Islamic perspectives and responses to climate change. It’s proceedings was published. We became signatories of Interfaith Summit on Climate held in Uppasala Sweden.
When there is a global campaign for policy shift for the government and international agencies and stronger call for corporate responsibilities, as a faith based organization our call for reinforcing religious and cultural values in shaping individual lifestyle, national and global policies.
October consultation called for engaging and training young generation to be campaigner, advocates and practitioner of sustainable lifestyle and development thereby protector of climate and environment.
Based on these call and sense of urgency AMAN is undertaking a Youth training program.
